Goodbye my friend . . . by RoadTripDog Goodbye my friend . . . by RoadTripDog
My friend and super rodent eliminator George has passed away. He was about 16 and used all 9 of his lives, but they were good lives. He was a friendly cat but not normally a lap cat although he would sometimes climb into my lap for a few minutes when I was sitting outside reading a book. Sometimes when I walked in the back of the property by the blackberry bramble he would walk with me, as if he was helping to patrol the perimeter. George was also unusual in that he would come when he was called, and he liked to ride in cars - things most cats would not do. He also was photogenic and would strike a pose when I came up to him with the camera.

I'm sure the local rodents are breathing a sigh of relief today. George ran up an impressive rodent body count, and that was only the ones we knew about! Probably two or three times more if we only knew. George wasn't my cat, he was my landlord's cat but we all loved him. His replacement has big paws to fill.

Thank you - I remember George the Cat as having a good cat life and he had a good sense of humor (for a cat). I'm pretty sure he used up all 9 of his lives having a good time! We miss him.

If a dog barks 'havhav' what is Hebrew for 'meow'?

How very sad but at least he lived a good long life.

My oldest cat Spatz might not make it this winter because lately she's been looking thin and hasn't eating as much, I'm glad to have her in life because she's been a real blessing to me.

Yes, George did have a long life and a good one, and it sounds like Spatz has that with you. That's our comfort, as many cats are not fortunate to have people who care for them. We knew George was not going to be long with us a few weeks ago when he stopped eating, although he did continue to hunt small rodents right up to the end.

Thank you I really appreciate that. Yes it's a real shame there are people out there who treat cats with cruelty and pain. :(

As has been said, remember the good moments in George's lives with you. Perhaps let his passing redouble your efforts to tell those (both animal and human) around you now what they mean to you.

Thank you for your thoughts. George had a good life here, all the tenants loved George. I even wrote a short story from George's perspective as I was practicing/testing my writing skills (or lack thereof).

Geez...this is too sad, M. It looks like he's giving his final bow....

Getting attached to a pet is dangerous...

A rather stately looking old cat. He seems pretty relaxed and comfortable pictured here. His tail is trailing out behind him instead of tucked up around him so nobody steps on it.
A wonderful capture.

Its funny when cats sometimes exhibit dog like behavior. I had a cat that always came when I called. I think it's when they hear a unique sound, unlike a dog who perks up at the slightest whistle.

It's always better to remember the good and funny things when someone or a favored pet dies. Sorry to hear about his dying.

When we reflect on his life it seems he had a good cat life. Or nine of them. You're right, that's the thing to remember.

that's a sad story :( I know how it can be to lose an animal.

Great shot though, really captures the emotion.
