On The Turntable In 1962: 'The Stripper' - David Rose

1962 History: The first Vail Ski Resort opens.

Let's have some fun today with the Blue Meanie. It's a 1962 Buick Special converted to be an asphalt burning tire shredding fire breathing drag racer. Or something.

Buick has used the model name 'Special' on several different cars beginning back in 1936. That's even before I was born. But in 1962 it was Buick's version of what GM at the time called its Y-body line of compact cars that included the Olds F-85 and the Pontiac Tempest. I happen to like these cars. While The Blue Meanie now has a Chevrolet 327 up front, you would get the 1962 Buick Special off the showroom floor with either a 198 cu. in. V-6 or a cool 215 cu. in. V-8 engine with a two speed automatic (really) or a three or four speed manual shift transmission.

You're all waiting patiently to find out if Sweetie and I would look good driving the Blue Meanie. The short answer is yes, for a quarter mile. No champagne picnic lunch - no extra unnecessary weight. And it would be Sweetie doing the driving - she's got a lead foot like you wouldn't believe. And I would probably be left at the starting line too! I often kid her that she's going to be the Little Old Lady From Pasadena someday but she doesn't like that idea. She doesn't want to move to Pasadena.
