There are those of us who still admire the old station wagons, and although we didn't want to be seen driving them as teenagers, our friends always seemed to want us to drive them while they rode around in the back seat with their date. Or just in the back. Somewhere.
"Keep your hands on the wheel
and keep your eyes on your driving" or something like that.
The station wagons were the minivans of their day. Hey, I once owned a minivan that was all tricked out with the right options and it was a pretty good performer. Here's a great example of a 1955 Ford Country Sedan station wagon without the phony woody trim - I like real woody wagons but the fake stuff is the visual equivalent of fingernails on chalkboard. This pretty red wagon has a V8 engine with the Fordomatic transmission. It has a few nice extra touches like the stars on the taillights, spinner wheel covers and chrome tipped exhaust. OK so the Pharaohs would not have allowed this in their club, but I would allow it in my car club. If I had one.
