On The Turntable In 1947: 'There's No Business Like Show Business' - Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters

1947 Best Film Oscar: Gentlemen's Agreement starring Gregory Peck and Dorothy McGuire

Here's the comparison car to the 1947 DeSoto. Lots of similarities with these two. Big rounded cars, big chrome grilles, wide whities. Both cars feature optional bumper guards and fog lights. The Nash has a windshield visor but one not typical for 1947. This one is plastic rather than the usual metal and IMHO not a nice looking or effective. But all considered, the Nash seems a bit more stylish than the DeSoto, even though the DeSoto's fenders had a more integrated look, not separate as in prewar style.

The featured car here is the 1947 Nash Super Series Ambassador and while it also had a six cylinder engine, the Nash had a valve-in-head arrangement. But that wasn't much help in the power department. The DeSoto's engine was 236.6 ci rated at 100hp, the Nash engine was 234.8 ci rated at 112hp.

One of my uncles was a Nash fan and owned one of these, later trading it in for a '55 that he drove until it was so rusted it was unsafe. By then, the Nash nameplate was gone and he bought a Ford but never liked it as much as the Nash.

So we come to the all-important (to me, anyway) question: would Sweetie and I look great driving this car? The answer is similar to the same question about the DeSoto. Yes we would look cool but in a different way than in a hot stylin' convertible. It's all show business, and if you know that there is no other business like it, you'll go far.
