On The Turntable In 1946: 'Personality' - Johnny Mercer & The Pied Pipers
See and Hear Here: [link]

Now here's a car with personality. Or would that be car-onality? Either way, this 1946 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible is one big beautiful automobile. According to the 1946 Chrysler sales brochure, under that hood is a 323.5 cubic inch L-head "Spitfire High Compression" inline 8 cylinder motor. Wow! Who would have thought that 135 horsepower on a 127.5" wheelbase would get Sweetie all excited? Simple. Class and style trumps horsepower if the car is a massive and beautiful classic woody convertible from the 1940s. Those wide whitewall tires centered with little dog dish hubcaps would not sound like they should go with the car, but they sure add to the classic 1946 look.

The Chrysler woody lineup in 1946 was called Town & Country and the five models featured mahogany wood bonded to steel panels with front fenders from the Chrysler Newport. The five body styles offered were: Four Door Sedan, Brougham (two door sedan), Custom Club Coupe, Roadster and the Convertible. The Custom Club Coupe and the Convertible were set on the New Yorker's 127.5" wheelbase while the others (oh, the shame!) had to make do with a 121.5" wheelbase and 250.6 cubic inch L-head 6 cylinder motor from the Chrysler Windsor. The lucky owners of the Convertible and Roadster models only had to turn a knob and press a lever to actuate the electrically operated tops.

Good thing the top is already down, as Sweetie has picked this big red beauty for her Virtual Road Trip of the Day Car, perfect for a Wine Country tour, stopping at the best wineries to taste and stock up our wine cellar. Wait till you see the trunk on this car to appreciate how much wine we could carry.

Speaking of wine, this car was photographed at the 2011 B.R. Cohn Winery Charity Classic Car Show. If you and your sweetie are ever in Sonoma Wine Country I recommend that you stop here and try their wines and olive oils and other tasty delights. The setting is gorgeous and perfect for displaying classic automobiles. If you see a huge red Chrysler woody convertible drive by with a very happy beautiful blond lady driving (I'll be next to her in the front seat, enjoying the view), give us a wave!
